L’ossificatrice, The Ossifier, symbolizes the transformative and mutilative nature of ballet on the skeletal structure of dancers and the industry pressures they face. The use of “bones” as the primary material prompts reflection on the pervasive issue of the rigid standards of beauty and body image prevalent in ballet that often lead dancers to engage in unhealthy practices to conform to a particular physique. Through the juxtaposition of delicate bone structures and the demanding physicality of ballet, this project aims to spark conversations about the psychological toll of striving for perfection and the importance of promoting positive body image and self-acceptance.

Furthermore, regardless of race or body type, the internal structure of bones remains consistent among individuals. By emphasizing this universal aspect of human anatomy, the project advocates for greater representation and acceptance within the ballet world, challenging stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive environment for dancers of all backgrounds.
