"Tales of the Himalayas" is a collection of salt lamps meant to explore the materiality of pink salt through non-traditional shapes and movement. Through my work, I aim to help users understand the inherent characteristics and diverse natural variations of the material by encouraging touch and interactivity. It is also a testament to Pakistan's rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship; the raw material has been sourced from the salt mines of Khewra, Punjab, and the collection showcases the artistry and skill of Pakistani craftsmen. Moreover, by showcasing the craftsmanship of our country, "Tales of the Himalayas" serves as a cultural ambassador, bridging the gap between past and present, tradition and modernity, and inviting users to appreciate the beauty and complexity of our cultural heritage.
